Sharing Saturday - This week's favorite finds!

I seem to have a tendency to be drawn towards fantasy-like themes, and this week is a great example of that!

There are SO many of these awesome wooden butterfly necklaces in this shop that it was hard to choose just one. I love the contrast and attention to detail in this.

Another great shop with a ton of amazing pieces to choose from. I stumbled across this gorgeous chain headpiece and fell in love! Definitely worth taking a good look around.

I'm always a sucker for good photography, and this one is no exception. I love all the little glowy bits in the distance. Chinese lanterns are so cool!

With kindles and all sorts of other electronics taking over, books are very nearly going out of style. Which is a pity, because there are so many awesome bookends available to decorate your home with! This shop is great because each set portrays a unique and eye-catching scene.

This accessory is described as a scarf, but it's so versatile that you could really wear it as...pretty much anything! I LOVE the art, it's so incredibly detailed and gorgeous.

That's it for this week! Stay tuned for more awesome etsy finds.

Electric Eye - "Another World"

I always love going out to my boyfriend's parents' house; they live out in the country and there's so much to photograph out there! It's vastly different from the area I live in, on the edge of a city. Please enjoy this set from last October. :)

As always, I'd love to see anything you guys have to share!

Sharing Saturday - This week's favorite finds!

Hello again! It seems my favorites this week took on a more natural theme. Who can argue with such pretty shades of green, yellow and brown?

This shop sells a lovely array of these awesome wrist cuff wallets! You just open it up and there's a little zipper for your things. Cute and useful!

I love photography, and anything with that vintage-grunge look is sure to be an absolute favorite of mine. This photo of  a skyline filled with beautiful gothic architecture is amazing.

Nautiluses are incredibly pretty, and the simple vintage style of these art prints capture that perfectly. Plus, it's a set of three individual pictures!

These lamps give off a rustic, homey look that I can really get into. They can be hung from just about anything, and the creator even offers a length of rope upon request if you'd like to make it look just like the photos!

Lastly, I just found this gorgeous locket pendant necklace with lovely bright green moss preserved in resin. The colors of the whole thing are so gorgeous, and the rest of the shop is absolutely worth checking out!

Feel free to share any goodies you've found this week!

Electric Eye - "Little Things"

This set is from a trip to the park that I used to work at. I didn't always love the work, but the whole place was absolutely beautiful!

I could not believe the size of the pincers on this guy!

This road leads back to horse trails and log cabins

I always love seeing other peoples' photos! Feel free to share if you're so inclined. :)

Sharing Saturday - This week's favorite finds!

Hi everyone! Another week's gone by, and as I'm typing this the sun is just now going down where I'm at. Unfortunately, the skies haven't been clear very often this winter, but that doesn't mean I can't find the stars somewhere else to admire!

I LOVE this bracelet. Set in whites and golds, it's got an almost ethereal quality to it that makes it hard to miss. Plus it's layered, and who doesn't love layered bracelets?

This chandelier made from upcycled jars brings the beauty of stars right into your home. Though it's a bit on the expensive side(I'm sure it's justified!), this shop also has several other lamps available at many pricing options.

Another set of asymmetrical earrings...I know, I know...but who can resist these? I love how simple and pretty they are.

Of course if you're going hunting for stars, you'll need something to put them in. This messenger bag would be the perfect fit, don't you think?

This art print is absolutely gorgeous. I'm in love with the style of the artist, Lisa Falzon, and I'm sure you will be too after you get a good look through her shop.

And last, but certainly not least...I have to include this Mario themed necklace! It's got a little glow in the dark Luma/invincibility star shaped bottle hanging from a super long chain. They have it available in several color options. Honestly I love this whole shop, they have so many nice looking video game themed goodies available. It's totally worth checking out.

If you guys have found anything worth sharing this week, I'd love to see!

Happiness

I'm getting tired of being around so many people who refuse to try to make themselves happy.

I can't say that I've always been the happiest person. Actually, it's the exact opposite. I grew up believing that I had no value, that I was no more amazing or unique or important than any other person. As such, I didn't try to forge my own happiness. I figured, "This is just the way the world is." and for the most part, I followed what I was told and did what was asked of me.

Someone, I don't remember who, told me when I was very young that I couldn't be an artist when I grew up because they never make any money. A great-aunt told me to marry for money, because "love doesn't put food on the table". I grew up as the oldest child in a family with four children in the ghetto. We didn't really have much money to begin with(though my mom is absolutely fantastic and there was no lack of love in our house). I've never had a strong desire for money.

My wonderful mom
When I was in the eighth grade, my science teacher recommended that I take a test to get into an advanced math and science school the next year. I got in, and I hated it there. My junior year, I switched out to a graphic communication course. It was probably the best choice I made in high school. We learned the basics of graphic design, how to use photoshop, how to screen print, and I got to use a drawing tablet for the first time. During this period of time I realized that I really, really wanted to go into art. I didn't care if I didn't make any money. I just wanted to do something that made me happy.

I have a thing for not smiling in photos, but this is my "secretly pleased" face

When I graduated, I got my first job and moved out of the house with my boyfriend. Suddenly, money was forced into a new level of importance for me. When I lost that job, through an unfortunate string of events involving my own stubbornness and lack of insight, I wound up in the hospital for dehydration. After I was in the hospital, I hit rock bottom. I was having panic attacks every night for weeks. My personality was skewed in the most horrific ways. I don't know how Eric put up with me. My doctors wouldn't prescribe me any anxiety medications because I didn't seem stressed enough to them. Eventually one day I decided, "I'm sick of being miserable. I want to be my normal self again. I'm more than this.". I had to stop listening to bands like Metallica and Black Sabbath, because they would trip my anxiety. Any little thing that made me anxious, I took note of, and avoided it like the plague.

This entire past year I've been focusing on making myself happier. I'm not doing anything that directly affects the course of my life for anyone but myself. I keep notes on what makes me happy and what doesn't. I'm trying to start my own business so that I can one day work from home and see Eric more. I'm beginning to understand that all the inspirational quotes that I mocked as a teenager are more true than most people know. NOBODY but you can decide whether or not you are happy. If you are willing to follow your own path and not worry about other peoples' expectations, and if you are willing to let go of the things that are making you miserable, you can be the happiest person you know.

Electric Eye - "Frost"

I'm not always making jewelry, and one thing I like to do from time to time is wander around outside and take pictures. We live in a pretty big apartment complex off the highway, but there are a lot of trees and such surrounding us, so I don't usually have to go far to find something interesting.

For this week, I'll go with the theme of "Frost". This winter, like last winter, has been kind of wishy-washy. One week we have tons of snow, the next it all melts away and leaves everything looking bleak and soggy.

Since it's been so cold out lately, I haven't been able to convince myself to go outside for a proper photo walk. I'd soooo much rather stay inside with my raspberry hot cocoa. However, I have these photos from the end of last winter that I can share!

Did you find anything interesting to photograph this winter? I'd love to see!
